Weekly Update #1

We're actually a little late with this 1st update, but we had some other things to take care before we started the weekly update posts. Poor excuse, I know... However, you should expect a weekly update every Monday. That's the current plan, but we'll see how it goes. Now let's get to the meat of the subject.

Before we talk about the website changes/creation, let's discuss some of the details pertaining to the game.

Title and Card Pictures:

As described in the previous Blog Post, as you unlock characters in the time periods they'll show up on the Title Screen. Well, last week, all the main Astral Realm characters and the Labyrinths' main character had their pictures drawn, traced, and colored for the Title Screen. Along with them, the main characters had all their card pictures taken care of - up to Stage 6. This was all done in preparation for the Demo.

Now, just reading text about drawing is quite boring, so let's take a look at the process. It starts off with the sketch:

Normally it's far more sketchy than these two - but sometimes they are traced quickly if the sketch is lacking important details. This process usually takes anywhere from 5-20 minutes per character. Sometimes it goes quick, sometimes it doesn't. The next step is the tracing:

During the Tracing phase, the sketches are blown up by maybe 25-30%. The reason for increasing their size is so they can be scaled back down to hide imperfections that may be present - shaky lines, coloring in the wrong area, etc. This process is very slow - usually taking 30-45 mins per character. After the monotony of tracing is finished, the next step is coloring:

The coloring process doesn't take too long, unless the character has tons of different colors for small details. It takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes.

That's a small preview into the process of making the pictures for Story Universe. This process applies to Cutscene Pics, Cards, Title pics - you name it. We did skip one section, shading/lighting and effects. We'll go over that part in another update later. For now, we're just covering some basics. Now for the next part, Game and Character stats!

The Crystal holds all of Xiaxen's progress in the game.

Player and Character Statistics:

In Story Universe, many of the actions you perform are recorded in the Player Stats Menu (in the picture with the Big Crystal). These actions can be anything from Path Nodes Traversed, Influence Points Spent, Most Visited Time Period - even Longest Time Spent Doing Nothing!

Some of these stats may seem menial at first, but we thought it would be fun to have tons of randoms stats at the start of the game empty and, by the end of the game, seeing how they've filled out. In addition to Player Stats, there is also Character Stats. These are specific to each character.

In the Demo Version, there's far less stats being tracked for the Player and the Time Periods. We're still in the process of developing them. Enough about stats, let's move to the final section of the game updates.

Autosave Effect:

Some people would turn their nose up to this, and claim it's hardly worth a mention in the update. They think they're right, but they're not... Here's a look at the new one:

I'd show you the old one, but it's best left in the past. So now we'll move on with the Website update part. I promise it'll be brief.

Website Creation/Changes:

The last time we had a website was back in 2010, or 2011. We used the Intuit Website Builder to handle it. For the time it was okay... but obviously we had little idea of what we were doing. Originally the site was for hosting our resume and old crappy projects we worked on/made in the past. We kept up with it for a few months, but eventally just dropped it.

Fast forward to 2018/2019, we got help from a friend to help set up a website using wordpress. He even hosted it on his own server, which was great. However, Wordpress never clicked with me so we never got anything done with it. Eventually we moved on to use Wix for hosting and creating our website. Thank God it's easy to use.

Now for a Wayback Machine look at our old website.

Here's a link to the other version, made using Wordpress. It's VERY bare bones, so you might be disappointed.

Well, that'll do it for this Weekly Update. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Remember to check out our Social Media, bookmark our website, or whatever, to stay up to date with us.

Take care.
